Springtime In Our House

Well, who would have thought that this Easter season, we'd be able to have our own taste of Spring right in our home. The sights and sounds of Spring are not only abundant from our window, but in our kitchen, we hear the new little "cheep cheep" or baby chicks.

My son's kindergarten class hatched chicks this week and the teacher needed someone to "chick-sit" over the four day weekend, and of course my son volunteered. Which had been great fun for the kids. They are great babysitters and are constantly checking on them, holding them, and making sure their stay at our home is as comfortable as possible.

We have four chicks, named Peep, Friendly, Brown and Turkey. And each of the kids have "adopted" one of them. Turkey, sadly, has been left alone because he's not as affectionate as the others. He really acts his name.

My husband and I, knowing nothing about chicks, have laughed about the "worse" that could happen. The chicks have a heat lamp on them constantly that really lets out the heat. In fact, it gave our little girl a sunburn on her arms from reaching into the box so much. We figure the worse thing that could happen to the chicks is we end up with a box of KFC. ha ha

So, our kids have had a fun Easter season this year. It's been fun to see the excitement a baby brings, even a baby chick.

Easter Fun

Every Tuesday, I have the kids in my son's half day kindergarten come to my house for lunch. Today we made Easter sugar eggs. I just wanted to post a picture of how cute they turned out. It was so fun to make them with my kids and their friends.

Happy Easter!

Sweet Dreams

Tonight I had the special privilage to lay by all three of my chilren before they fell asleep. Typically, one or two of them have dozed off by the time I finish with "the baby". So, I don't always get to snuggle with my older two, but tonight, Katie fell asleep like a charm, so I was able to visit and lay by all of them. And what a blessing. They truly are such beautiful miracles in my life. They are teaching me, and molding me into the person I desire to be. What sweet, sweet children!

A few days ago, I happened to overhear my oldest two talking as they played, and the conversation went like this:
"You know what's sad?"
"What?"
"Heavenly Father really misses us."
"No He doesn't."
"Yes He does."
"Naw-uh, because we are still His children. We're still children of God. Did you know that."
"Yeah, I know that."
"So he doesn't miss us cause we're still his children. Everyone on earth is His children. Even mommmy and daddy are his children. Isn't that neat?"
"YEAH! I know that!"

Overhearing their "testimonies" of where they came from, and whose they are...it made me again stand in awe of my mission. Motherhood.

I have been studying about the family and what prophets have taught and said. I loved a story I read about Pres. Spencer W. Kimball. He relates a story of when he sealed a couple in the temple. He talked to the parents afterward and the parents said something along the lines of, "We are very common people. We haven't had much of what you'd call success, but we are so proud of our children. All eight of them have been married in the temple and are active members of the church."

President Kimball said to this man, "That is the greatest success story I've ever heard. You are fulfilling the purpose for which you were sent to this world."

Don't you LOVE that??!! "The purpose for which you were sent to this world." Kinda puts parenthood into a new perspective, huh?

Anyway, back to my night, I guess I'm just so grateful for the opportunity to have three, soon to be four, sweet angels in my home. There are times that I really wonder if what I'm doing makes a difference, times when I want to cry in frustration, and do! But, there are also times, like tonight, that the Spirit whispers to my spirit and I realize I am "fulfilling the purpose for which I was sent to this world."

And that is a reason for sweet dreams.

And the score is tied!

Yesterday was one of those "mommy moments" that you want to hold in your heart forever. We took our three children with us to my ultrasound to "see" the baby. I had prepared them by showing them pictures of their own ultrasounds, letting them know they wouldn't be seeing what looked much like a baby in their eyes. We practiced looking at old ultrasounds and trying to decipher if it was fingers, toes, arms or legs that we were looking at. They were so excited! Especially my son, because he was going to get to miss school for an hour. (Little perks.)

We headed off as a family to the doctor, and you could tell the kids were excited, which added to mom's excitement. Nicholas so badly wanted it to be a boy, but he was cute to say, "I'll love the baby if it's a girl."

After doing the routine check-up stuff, I called my family back into the ultrasound room and the fun started. My husband knew immediately what we were having, without the doctor even stopping on...um, certain parts. The docotor was still trying to "find" the baby, and my husband said, "Well, I can tell you what we're having right now." (I think my husband was a little anxious to find out too. ha ha) The kids perked up and Kyle said, "It's a boy." The rest of us, mom included, all said together, "It's a boy?!" And then it was confirmed. It was indeed a boy. Our son was so excited. He kept asking, "So, it's a boy? I'm going to have a brother? Are you sure?" I think he thought it was too good to be true. My little girl was smiles from ear to ear. She said, "Mommy! I get to have a little sister AND a little brother!" I was in heaven, and just smiled and smiled as my kids would say things like, "There's his face! I see a foot. That's his backbone! Look, he's waving to us!" I was very impressed with how well they could make out the baby. It was pure happiness to watch and listen to. What a miracle babies are! It's an absolute miracle!

So, yep! The score is tied in our family. 3 girls to 3 boys! How fun! We are so excited for our little man to join the family. We are due August 15th. Fun, fun!
